With every new KDE4 release (current KDE 4.1 alpha1), there will be a lot of controversy at news pages here in germany about the Release Schedule. I think in other countries it's the same. A lot of peoples doesn't understand that KDE 4.0 is an important release and KDE goes the right way. KDE 4.0 is not designed for endusers, but it is a kool base for beginn to port KDE3 applications to KDE4 or build new KDE4 applications.
That's allways known but what are the effects of this Schedule? What is done since the KDE 4.0 release in january until now?
- A lot of projects work to port his applications to KDE4. Examples:
- Many optical increments and plasmoids already available at KDE-Look.org:
- around 25 Plasmoids
- around 20 Plasma Themes
- around 10 KDE Styles/Themes
- Around 50 KDE4 applications are at this time available at KDE-Apps.org. Examples:
- KDVDCreator: Application to create video VCD, SVCD or DVD.
- K9copy: Allows full or partial copy of a DVD9 to a DVD5.
- Blokkal: A KDE blogging client.
- aKu: The RAR GUI application for KDE4.
- KRename: Krename offers an easy way to rename hundreds of files in one go.
- et cetera
I hope this small listing show you that KDE 4.0 is an important release. With this step KDE can ensure that a lot of themes, plasmoids and applications are available when KDE 4.1, the first KDE4 release which is designed for endusers, released in july this year.
